Rhino Trek South Africa challenge 2010.
Following the North Pole Solo 2010 expedition, Christina will be leading her chosen charity Save the Rhino on a trekking expedition in South Africa
Location: Northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Duration: 5 days of trekking; 8 days in total
Distance: Average distance of 18kms/day (mountainous savannah terrain)
Group size: 8 participants per group plus two guides (there will be a maximum of 3 groups)
In the heart of the Kingdom of the Zulu, at the foothills of the Lebombo Mountains our journey will start. Our route, especially and exclusively designed for Rhino Trek South Africa, will take the trekking groups through game reserves which are part of the Black Rhino Range Expansion Project; for which you will be raising funds. All these reserves also host various other big game such as elephant, buffalo, giraffe and hippo; not to mention being a birding “hotspot” with over 350 species present in this area.
With five days of trekking through these reserves, and camping under the stars, you can be assured of a true African experience and that you will be able to get up close and personal with some of the most amazing creatures to walk, swim and fly our planet.
You will cover nearly 100kms in five days, trekking your way through savannah and the rolling mountains of this area. Participants must be capable of walking for up to eight hours per day in mild but humid conditions.

Hi Christina!
Congratulations on the expedition so far, I have been following your progress with great interest.
My parents were devout and dedicated to the Rhino cause through the years. Way back when while you and I were still at Mam’k, my parents would travel to southern Africa every May, and make their way through Namibia and Zim. No tourist trap excursions, they were in the bush with the rangers for whom they raised funds, supplied and helped to wage the countless battles necessary to protect this dynamic species.
Zimbabwe’s implosion broke some of the contacts I used to keep, but I am thinking we may know a few of the same people.
If I can’t make this trip, perhaps we will see one another if you find time to visit Michele; I have recently relocated to Boise, and very much look forward to connecting with her.
All the best!
