Training in Norway

It hardly seemed necessary to leave London with all the ice, snow and below zero temperatures, but my new sled and a load of new gear was ready and awaited in Norway.

I was lucky to get away from Heathrow in a gap in the snow showers. Arriving at the airport for my 7am flight the signs were still up where people had queued for a hotel room rather than a flight the previous night and the janitors were pushing trollies loaded with the roll mats they were collecting from the blurry-eyed unlucky ones who had not been eligible for such a treat. I felt lucky to get away.
Stepping off the plane in Oslo the truly cold air swirled up my nostrils and lifted a smile on my face; a reminder of the thrills ahead. Inge and I drove between sponsors collecting new kit we would test in the mountains. Crispy Goretex, voluminous sleeping bags, perfectly folded tents and unscratched pans filled the back of the 4×4 and it felt more like Christmas as we drove up roads of crystal white trees.
